Homemade Hummus

Homemade hummus is very easy to make and it tastes much better than anything you can buy. This Hummus has been made without  Tahini, and instead sesame seeds paste is used. This chickpea purée is quite delicious and adding more olive oil to it, the taste just lingers.

Homemade Hummus


Prep Time: 10Minutes  
Cook Time: 25 Minutes
Total Time: 35 Minutes
Serves: 8-10 people

  •          1 ½ cup Chickpeas, soaked in water for 8-9 hours
  •         ½ cup olive oil,
  •         2 to 3 garlic cloves
  •         1 tablespoon lemon juice
  •         ½ teaspoon red chili powder
  •         ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
  •         1 teaspoon cumin powder
  •         ½ cup roasted and powdered white sesame seeds
  •         a few sprigs of parsley or coriander
  •         salt as per taste

Method :
  • Roast the sesame seeds and then powder these finely.
  • Take the cooked chickpeas, all the spices, parsley, salt and garlic in a blender.
  • Add the powdered sesame seeds, lemon juice and olive oil.
  • Blend to a smooth paste.
  • Serve the hummus drizzled with the olive oil and sprinkled with a bit more cumin or paprika and some parsley and with warm pita bread garnished with a few sprigs of parsley.
